Description

An early Fender Japan domestic market instrument faithfully replicating the look and feel of a golden age 1950s Fender Strat, this guitar was crafted at the famed Fujigen factory. Faithful to vintage spec and an upscale model sold only within Japan, this Strat has a resonant basswood body and figured one-piece maple neck, with a sparkling, lively acoustic tone with plenty of natural snap and clarity which translates well through the original alnico magnet single coil pickups. The guitar is fitted with its original compliment of USA Fender 57/62 black bobbin pickups, faithful to vintage spec with unbeveled alnico magnets, black bobbin flatwork, and push back cloth-covered leads. Coupled to a five-way pickup selector switch, the bridge pickup is sparkling and chewy, while the neck pickup has ideal fullness and bell-like top end, with every shade of single coil Strat sound covered in-between. The guitar weighs 7lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C profile carve bordering on the chunky side of things with generous shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .855″ deep at the 1st fret and .985″ at the 12th. There is  subtle flame figuring extending the length of the neck, highlighted by the smooth ambered gloss finish. The original slender frets are nigh flawless with well-rounded crowns and just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar conforms to traditional Fender specs with a 7 1/4″ fretboard radius, 25 1/2″ scale length, and full 1 11/16″ nut width. On the correct ’50s shape headstock, the original Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. Above the four bolt neck plate, the N-prefix serial number and “Made in Japan” text is intact.
